The Background

Calvary Chapel Birmingham was started in 2000 as a home Bible study and has continued to grow into a flourishing church that meets in a former underground nightclub in the city centre of Birmingham, England.

As the leadership has been praying for a larger, more practical space for the church, the Lord pressed on their hearts to look for a property that could not only accommodate the reality of the church, but also a vision the Lord gave to start a biblically-based technical school for students interested in missions. The vision behind the school is to address the lack of practical ministry skills that are apparent within ministry, and to equip those who have the willingness to serve, but not always the practical skills to support the wider needs of the local church and international missions field.

Our desire is that in acquiring a suitable property to house our growing church, the practical training ground for the Koinos school will be established.

Koinos = commonality, to bring together

The Discussion

“Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when he saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few.” Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into His harvest.” (Matthew 9:35-38).

We believe that in starting this school, the Lord will use us to train these labourers.  We want them to know, we want them to grow and we want them to go to the harvest.

Not every church has the luxury of a large leadership team with a wide variety of gifts and skills, so we hope to train individuals who can be well-rounded and useful within areas that we see as common gaps in ministry.

The main areas we hope to train students in are: Building Maintenance, IT, Worship, Front Line Medical Support, Art, Hospitality, Discipleship, Bible Teaching, Children’s Ministry, Video/Photography, Livestream/Broadcast and Audio.

We would love for you to partner with us in prayer and, if led by the Lord, with a financial contribution.

The Invitation

We’d love for you to partner in this with us in the Lord by prayer, and if led, financially. We would use funds to purchase and refurbish the building to suit the needs of the school and church and purchase the equipment needed to outfit the school.

Sustainability

We have a vision of being a self-sustaining organisation with practical steps that we can enact now, and a vision for further steps towards future sustainability. Taking these steps will put us in a position where we will not need to solely depend on donors for ongoing ministry.

Future sustainability steps:

  • Solar panels (the lower electric bills and to provide a source of clean energy)
  • Water reaping system (to generate water and lower water bills)
  • Other compatible energy solutions (to assist with power consumption, bills and clean energy)
  • Off-property farm (to move towards food sustainability and agricultural training for students)
  • LED lighting (to assist with lowering electric bills)
  • Heat pump systems (to provide a clean source of heating and air conditioning)
